Christiansholm Festning, Kristiansand

Christiansholm Fortress was part of Christian IV’s plan for the defense of Kristiansand in Norway (originally Christianssand) when the city was founded in 1641.

For 200 years, the city’s location and its fortifications were the reason why Kristiansand was a strategically important city – both in war and peace. The facilities were as valuable to Norway’s defense as the fortresses Akershus and Bergenhus.
